The beauty
of the waterfall the water falls down in two steps meaning there are two falls.
It has a height reaching around 25 meters. You can get a good view of the fall
from the view point located right next to the falls but be aware because there
is a possibility you might get kissed by the cold water. The gigantic Kirindi
Oya feeds the water to this fall. This water attraction is surrounded by a
jungle.
The area
around the fall is dry most of the year. The rain fall is mostly in the last
three months of the year and also from May to June. During these two seasons it
might get dangerous cause there is going to be so much water that you might be
able to reach the view point.
Other than
the beauty the falls has another unique side in Sri Lankan folk stories about
the Demon King Rawana. People believed Rawana hid princess Seetha in a cave
behind the falls. The Rawana falls gets its name because of this story. People
believe that the other end of the cave is located in a temple close to the
falls. You can visit the temple if you wish to see the cave.
If you’re
planning to visit Badulla town or Ella then the Rawana falls is a definite
place to visit and enjoy the beauty of this place. But don’t try to get into
the water as the current is not kind. Also please help us protect the beauty of
this place.
I have a
small request from you all, please don’t pollute the area. If you brought
something don’t leave it, take it home and put it into a dustbin. Enjoy the
view, take photos do whatever you want but don’t pollute the environment. It’s
our responsibility to keep our world clean.
Don’t forget to visit this place if you are travelling Badulla.
Thank you
