Bomburu
Ella or Perawella Ella is located in the Uva Paranagama Divisional Secretariat
Division close to the Badulla - Nuwara Eliya district boundary. This
waterfall is the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka. This beautiful Bomburu
Falls is located in the Seetha Eliya Kandapola Forest Reserve in the village of
Perawella, about 15 km from Welimada.

The Dulgala River, another tributary of the Mahaweli River, is formed by falling into four parts. The height of the falls is about 50 meters and the width are only 20 meters. Sources indicate that the lower part of the falls is known as Uma Oya.
If you are coming here from Kandy, you should come to Welimada via Nuwara Eliya and those coming to Colombo should come to Bandarawela and then to Welimada. From Welimada town, there is a bus to Bomburu Falls across the Uduwaha. If you are coming in your own vehicle, you will have to follow the foot path to Bomburu Ella from Welimada to Uva Paranagama Road, Ambagasdowa Junction, Himbiliyagahamadiththa Mudanawa Junction, about 11 km. If you go to this waterfall, ask the villagers for details. If you go for 2 km along the footpath you will find this waterfall. The area is populated with beautiful fields and greenery. Get ready for this trip as my leeches are plentiful.
This biodiversity hotspot also served as a hunting ground in the British Era. The sound of the falls is large and the dew rises about 30 meters. Below the falls, there is also a place for you to bath. The falls are even more beautiful as the fog flows over the Bombar Falls. Really, no matter how much you look at this waterfall. The waterfall is spectacular.
It is said that a legend relating to an elephant of King Rajasinghe II was attached to this village. However, this waterfall is still unknown to many tourists in Sri Lanka. Now we hear that many people are going to visit this bombshell and the beautiful environment is being destroyed. So, go visit this beautiful waterfall. But never forget the beautiful surroundings.
I
have a small request from you all, please don’t pollute the area. If you
brought something don’t leave it, take it home and put it into a
dustbin. Enjoy the view, take photos do whatever you want but don’t pollute the
environment. It’s our responsibility to keep our world clean.
Don’t forget to visit this place if you are travelling Badulla-Nuwara Eliya.
Thank you.
