Beautiful Elgin Falls on the Kandyan Railway

The beautiful waterfall we are talking about today called Elgin Falls is located in the Ambewela area in the Nuwara Eliya District. This waterfall is a waterfall that you can definitely see on the way to Badulla on the Kandyan Railway. About 10 km from Nanu Oya Railway Station towards Ambewela you can see the Elgin Falls in the distant forest.

This waterfall is 18 km away from Nuwara Eliya town. The waterfall is located on the border of the Horton Plains Forest Reserve and is surrounded by dense forest. So, it is not so easy to reach near the waterfall. There are several different waterfalls near this waterfall. The main Elgin Falls is 24 meters high. The sound of the waterfall during the rainy season makes it look a bit horrible.

From Ambewela railway station you can walk to the waterfall after a difficult journey by rail, but now you are not allowed to travel this way. Note that this is a very difficult journey of about 6 km. Another accessible waterfall is the jungle road from Nuwara Eliya to Lidula Junction on the Talawakele Road and through the Elgin Estate. The distance here is about 2-3 km.

Elgin Falls is created by the Dambagasthalawa Oya which starts from Horton Plains and joins the Mahaweli. St. Clair Falls is another waterfall created by the same stream. The area around the falls is also home to animals such as leopards, deer and pigs. The area around the falls is also covered with bee trees. The waterfall is located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.

Infinity Traveler We urge you never to miss this beautiful Elgin waterfall. This is because you are moving into a reserve. Travel to Badulla or Ella on the Kandyan Railway and experience the beauty of this waterfall along the way.
