Piduruthalagala has a height of, 2524 m or 8281 feet above sea level. This mountain is also known as Pedro Mountain. This mountain is located close to the Nuwara Eliya town in the Nuwara Eliya District. Apart from the elevation of the sea level in Sri Lanka, the Piduruthalagala mountain range is important as it is a point where 4 out of the 92 maps that divide Sri Lanka. Beliuloya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, is made from the forested region of this Piduruthalagala mountain range.

The Army Air and Navy camps are located on the top of the Piduruthalagala mountain. And this place is a high security zone. The main transmission hubs of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, CSN and Telecom are located here. There is also a complex with high-tech equipment, including radar, at the top of Piduruthalagala mountain. This is why hundreds of soldiers have been tasked with protecting the mountain top. This is one reason why the mountain top has been a major target of the LTTE for some time now.

Tourists are allowed to go to this tower and they have to get permission. They also have to comply with the rules and regulations of the army. One of the laws is to prohibit taking photos on top of a mountain range. The reason is that it could have an impact on the security. Tourists are allowed to take pictures of the Nuwara Eliya town and other restricted places visible from the top of the mountain.

You have only 8km to go from Nuwara Eliya to this mountain range. The road is winding and climbing the mountain is not an easy task. The Army will check your national identity cards and other items. At the top of the mountain are soldiers' quarters and several other buildings. You can't get down or stay anywhere on this Piduruthalagala road, because this mountain is so popular with leopards.
